Excavations show that the ancient city of Patara was built over 2,000 years ago, and the structures found here have played an important role in historical lighting. Some of the buildings in the city are: the parliament building, the amphitheater, the historic lighthouse, the ancient main street of Patara, baths and various temples. During the Roman period, gladiator and wildlife fights were held in a theater located south of the parliament building, with a capacity of about 6,000.
Before heading to Patara Beach, you can see the oldest lighthouse in history, located 650 meters west of the agora next to the parliament building. The lighthouse of Nero, built in the 60s, was excavated in 2005 under the sand as a result of excavations.
