What to know before you go

Alanya Fortress was included in the Interim UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 with its ancient history, has become one of the most visited places. Medieval fortress on the peninsula, rises up to 250 meters above sea level. The length of the walls is 6 kilometers. Alanya Fortress was built on a 10 hectare peninsula during the Hellenistic period. It was built on a very steep rock that was difficult to grab. Alanian Mountain is literally strewn with interesting objects from different eras. The skeletons of ancient temples, the road to which will not be open to everyone, here side by side with the villas of the Ottoman wealthy of the 19th century.

Houses, like bunches of swallow nests, literally hang on the mountain – it is impossible to believe that something can hold on to this slope. Alanya Fortress is open all year round, only visiting hours change:

  • In summer, the fortress is open from 9 am to 7 pm
  • In winter, the fortress is open from 8 am to 5 pm

How to get to Alanya fortress

The fortress is located in the central part of Alanya. You need to climb to the very top of the mountain. The most optimal way would be to get to the cable car from the Damlatash cave. Bus number 4 goes to the fortress. Look for the Kale inscription. It is quite difficult to climb on foot. But if you decide, then you need to start the path from the red bath and move up.

There are many pine trees growing along the mountain, you will enjoy the scent of pine needles and the freshness of the mountains. From any point on your journey, you will get a wonderful view of the fortress. Interesting perspectives will open up with each new jerk. The fortress area is shaped like an open-air museum, and most of it is accessible to visitors free of charge at any time of the day or night.
