Yalan Dunya Cave

What to know before you go

Yalan Dunya Cave is the most interesting cave in Alanya. Cave tourism is an active type of recreation that has become very popular in recent years. Therefore, the local authorities of Alanya are very concerned about the condition of the caves. Such places are very important for lovers of the underworld.

Yalan Dunya Cave is located near the province of Gazipasa on the slope of the Asar hill, which rises above the village of Beyrebucak. The cave attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists. The terrace in front of the cave offers a beautiful view of the village and the surrounding area.

The length of the cave is 4 km, it is one of the longest caves in the world. But only 450 meters are available for tourists. In winter and summer, the temperature is constant at 28 degrees. The cave has a high humidity of 75 percent. It is worth walking carefully, as the steps are very slippery due to the high temperature and humidity. The moisture in the cave prevents matches or a lighter from being lit.

There is a narrow entrance to the cave. There are 3 large halls available for tourists, but they are connected by very narrow tunnels. You can go through if you bend very strongly. Yalan Dunya Cave is composed of stalagmites, stalactites 5 million years old. The ceiling of the first hall is 35 meters high. On the left side, white prevails, and on the right, yellow and brown. To the end of the hall you need to go through a tunnel, which is about 1 meter high and 4 meters long. The second hall is also covered with stalactites and stalagmites, like the first. The acoustics are excellent here. To get to the third hall, gently go through the tunnel again. Yalan Dunya cavefully lit and paved with wooden paths. Inside there are benches for rest. A special kind of bat lives here, but they are not visible to passing tourists.

According to experts, Yalan Dunya Cave began to form 5 million years ago and is still in the process of formation. Stalactites and stalagmites in the cave merged from time to time and formed many columns 2-5 meters in size in different colors. Although the number of columns exceeding these does not exceed the fingers of the hand, one of these columns can be seen in the second room. After entering the third hall, the most interesting and striking structure awaits – a column with a diameter of 10 meters. The atmosphere inside is simply breathtaking.

Each cave has its own legend. A man lived in this cave who lived far from people. When he went hunting, he fell in love with a girl. They met secretly in a cave. Then there was an earthquake, and the young man got stuck in the depths of the cave. A dent in the depths of the cave separated the lovers and the girl was unable to meet her lover. The young girl was upset that she never saw her boyfriend. Translated into Russian, the Yalan Dunya Cave means the Cave of the World of Lies.

Previously, Yalan Dunya Cave was a place where criminals were hiding. The villagers hid their animals to avoid paying taxes. The Yalan Dunya cave has suffered a lot from the activities of people, so a lot of effort was spent to restore it. Repairs were carried out and lighting systems were installed. Contaminated areas are cleared of soil and water. The cave has been expanded and ease of transportation provided.

There is a cafe at the exit from the cave. You can enjoy tea brewed with wood. Rest a little and wash your hands.

Yalan Dunya Cave attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists. It works both in winter and summer. About 25 thousand people visit it annually.
